1 Corinthians 4:6-7 “I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another. For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it?” Brethren, to move away from Ezekiel momentarily, Paul in 1 Corinthians 4 was speaking to the Corinthian churches and explaining how they don’t follow Paul, or the believer Apollos-essentially, followers of Jesus Christ don’t follow His believers, but JESUS CHRIST Himself. These people were siding with the leaders in the church instead of being anchored by sacred scripture. Paul speaks against this and I think it is important today. Regardless of what church we represent or which Pastor we are under, we follow CHRIST alone! You can’t follow imperfect sinful men or else pride will set in, and your sin will bring you out of line to God’s glory. Paul sobers the people by stating the Gospel of grace has been freely given by God. We didn’t earn or inherit it. God’s will was what gave it to us and had us respond to it (Jhn. 1:7-8). So why would we boast in something that we didn’t earn? Brethren, in all things, boast in Christ. God bless you!
