Acts 8:13 “Even Simon himself believed, and after being baptized he continued with Philip. And seeing signs and great miracles performed, he was amazed.” Brethren, it is very possible for people to make declarations of believing in Jesus Christ, but having no true saving faith in Him. Simon was a magician seeking the glory of men. Once he saw how much attention Phillip received from preaching Jesus Christ, he believed and followed Phillip. There are people who are in churches who are there or the wrong reasons. Maybe it’s for money, fame, or influence, but God knows the hearts of men and will judge accordingly. Later, from v. 18-25, we see the apostle Peter, through the wisdom and power of the Holy Spirit, realize Simon’s true intentions. He wanted to pay with money for the Holy Spirit to fall on him so that he could be known. Why are you in church today? Why do you identify as Christian? Is it for money, fame, and influence? Or do you truly understand that without faith in Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection, you still stand at enmity with God because of your sin? God knows. I pray that the church is only made up of those who truly understand there depravity without God, and there total dependency upon Him as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God bless you!
