Ezekiel 38:17-18 “Thus says the Lord God: Are you he of whom I spoke in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel, who in those days prophesied for years that I would bring you against them? But on that day, the day that Gog shall come against the land of Israel, declares the Lord God, my wrath will be roused in my anger.” Brethren, the mystery of Gog and land of Magog has kept many biblical historians thrown for a loop. Some say that this name referred to a historical ruler named Gyges, ruler of Lydia in Asia Minor. However there is no timeframe given for us to be sure. Many people believe that this is a messianic prophecy, as possibly confirmed by Revelation 20:8 where Magog is one of the nations led by Satan to attack Israel after the 1,000 years. This would mean most likely that the nation f Magog refers to the Scythian people or modern-day Russia. The main point here, however, is God’s sovereignty over the nations. We see how He informs Gog of what his nation will do in coming years, as decreed by God. This shows the relationship man has with God as God orchestrates the steps of man (including salvation), while at the same time, mankind remains solely responsible for their actions. God has made us to where we make choices, but behind the scenes, God, though we feel somewhat independent, is the one orchestrating the decisions made. This should humble us as creations made in His image. Don’t question God in His vastness and perfection because of His sovereignty. Simply marvel at how gracious and merciful He is for even giving us life to display an example of His goodness. God bless you.
