Corporate Accountability

Ezekiel 18:28-29 “Because he considered and turned away from all the transgressions that he had committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die. Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ O house of Israel, are my ways not just? Is it not your ways that are not just?” Brethren, Ezekiel 18 speaks on corporate responsibility towards the house of Israel. That they are accountable to their actions, both sinners and the righteous. The people seem to have a response much like people have today, saying that God is unjust for keeping his people accountable. In this context, God was forgiving the repentant sinner and condemning the righteous fallen. The ultimate theme is a repentance that seeks to receive a new heart and new spirit that follows the LORD. It also states that God does not delight in the death of anyone, but as a good and just God, He needs to uphold the repercussion for transgressing His ordinances. Thankfully for us Gentiles, our covenant is not under the law, but under grace (Rom. 9:30-33). It is Jesus Christ who has taken the full weight of the law and felt God’s complete wrath for our sinfulness, but we must repent and trust Christ as LORD and follow Him or else our fruit will not prove true. The Jewish people, while held under the law, must pursue it by faith in Christ, and not in works to gain salvation. Salvation is of God, not of us. Give praise to God’s grace today!
