Worse off than Sodom?

Lamentations 4:6 “For the chastisement of the daughter of my people has been greater than the punishment of Sodom, which was overthrown in a moment, and no hands were wrung for her.” Brethren, this was very interesting for me to read. Consider this for a moment. The Jews are held in captivity by the Babylonians for years now, and the writer creates this punishment worse than Sodom and Gomorrah? How was this punishment worse than fire and brimstone being sent from Heaven to completely decimate an entire city for its sin? Because for the Jews, there covenant was established with God. He would protect them and bless them while they remained faithful servants of God. Therefore, they may have thought that an immediate death would have been better than the constant reminder of God’s judgment through Babylon’s enslavement. What this also shows is God’s covenant is His between His chosen! Think about it! God OBLITERATED Sodom and Gomorrah but only enslaved the Jewish people. He judged them for their sin, but the covenant was not compromised, because God will always remain faithful. The same can be said of our new covenant through Jesus Christ! God remains faithful, while amidst our sanctification, failure may come, God is still working within us until the day of completion. He will never compromise the covenant that was sealed through Jesus Christ, and no amount of sin can say otherwise. To keep sinning liberally after hearing the Gospel may prove that you’ve never known God and His gospel in the first place, but for those who are known by God, they will never be cast out, but instead, will be kept until the Day of Judgment to be with The Lord forever! Amen!
