Judgment for idolatry

Lamentations 2:17 “The Lord has done what he purposed; he has carried out his word, which he commanded long ago; he has thrown down without pity; he has made the enemy rejoice over you and exalted the might of your foes.” Brethren, God is just, and His Word is true. What God has purposed, no man can stop. God set the parameters for idolatry long before Israel was enslaved by Babylon, so they were without excuse. The Israelites finally felt the measure of God’s judgment for their idolatry. God warned them repeatedly to not follow the ways of gentile nations, but God’s people would not listen and sought satisfaction through idol worship and man-centered practices. Therefore, God rightfully gave His own people into the hands of Babylon to be subdued for a time for their sin. This makes me so thankful for Jesus Christ. He lived perfectly before the Father so that us as sinners, even God’s own physical nation, could be redeemed from its sinful practices. What we could clearly not do, Christ has done. We are made clean through His completed work of receiving the full portion of the Father’s wrath on the cross. Christ never looked to idols, but always desired to do what pleased the Father. What’s your desire? Do you live for idols or are you living for God? God bless you.
